How does our society parallel The Giver?
Do you know that the government is spying on you?In the giver a boy named Jonas learns all about different secretes going on in his community. He lives in a community that there's not really any privatize. This parallels to U.S because they have surveillance cameras watching us. Now they are listening to our conversations. There are lots more examples how The Giver parallel the U.S. In this essay i will be talking about examples and how they are true.
The articles about incarcerating the population of the U.S parallels the giver. One reason is that there is an expanded prison programs to allow non-violent elderly people to be release. Another reason is that "Holder's blue print included plans to divert low-level drug offenders to treatment and community service programs."said Attorney General Eric Holder. This means that they want to put drug people and drug dealers into community service and in prison because they want a perfect society. last reason is that the U.S held more prisoners out of all the other countries. This connects to the giver because there are like trap in a prison for no reason. The article is about incarcerating the population of the U.S parallels the giver because it explores control.
The Edward snowden situation and article parallel the giver society. One example is that both of our societies have surveillance. In Jonas society they have cameras watching them and we have that to. Another example is that government have secrets and people don't even know it. Final example is that both of our societies have whistle blowers that can tell us what the secrets are. In the community rosemary and Jonas know about that. Over all, both of our societies are very similar.
In the article "Arizona'banned'Mexican American books" parallels The Giver because the community doesn't want people to read books. One example is that "The TUSD claims that only seven book titles were brought and carried off." This means that they already started to try banning books. Another example is that students are not allowed to see a Mexican American books in the classroom. This is like the law in the giver that they can't read a book or see a book. last example is that Lupita Garcia said " that Mexican studies is only to be thought in Mexico". This is like the giver because only Jonas and and the giver get to read those books. All off those examples parallel the giver because they are not suppose to read books, just like student are not supposed to be reading Mexican American books. The article"Arizona banned Mexican American books" parallels the giver because the community doesn't want people to read books.
The song muse parallels the giver because it says a lot of thing that connects to the giver. one example is when he says "And hope that we will never see the truth around."They are talking about how there's so many that we don't know about the government. In the book they agreed not to tell what was going wrong in the community. Another example is that they said "interchanging mind control" and in the it says they have laws or rules they have to follow or else they get in trouble. They are also in charge of your eyesight and climate .Last example is that in the song it says" they'll try to push drugs that keep us dump down." In the U.S junk food makes us lazy and in the community they have to take pills.
In conclusion, all of those examples of our world parallels the Giver. I think our world could change, but the government want to be charge of us. I think we would be like the giver if things get out of hand. I think it's already happening. People should really pay attention to what happening.
